Ramblers and Croydon Council are re-establishing the popular Wellbeing Walks in Croydon. Wellbeing Walks are free, short walks held across England, designed to help people take their first steps toward better health, wellbeing, and happiness. With hundreds of walks taking place each week, we are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help make this initiative a success in Croydon.  

We are currently seeking individuals interested in becoming participants as well as walk leaders to guide the walks.

Who Can Participate?  

Our walks are designed for everyone! All ages, abilities, and backgrounds are encouraged to join.  All walks are completely free. 

What to Expect?  

  • Friendly Atmosphere: Our walks are casual and welcoming, ensuring everyone feels included.  
  • Guided Routes: Enjoy guided walks on accessible paths with varying distances to suit all abilities.  
  • Social Time: After each walk, enjoy refreshments and social time to connect with fellow walkers.

Volunteer Opportunity: Walk Leaders 

In order to make this initiative a success, we are looking for volunteers to become trained Walk Leaders responsible for coordinating and leading walks.  

As a volunteer, you will: 

  • Lead or Assist Walks: Guide participants along safe, accessible routes. Volunteers can choose which area(s) of Croydon you wish to lead walks in. 
  • Support Participants: Encourage and assist walkers of all abilities, ensuring everyone feels included. 
  • Create a Welcoming Environment: Foster an atmosphere of positivity and support. 
  • Share Resources: Provide information about local wellness resources and activities. 
  • Take Registers and emergency details of walk participants 

Volunteers commit to: 

Prior training: 

  • Completing an online training course in health and safety and risk assessments 
  • Participating in a face-to-face trial walk with the Wellbeing Walk Coordinator 

Once registered as a volunteer: 

  • Leading one walk per week, ranging in length from 10minutes to 1hour.  
  • Sharing walk registers with the Wellbeing Walk Coordinator 
  • Reporting any issues such as safeguarding or falls to the Wellbeing Walk Coordinator

  • Stay Active: Enjoy the outdoors while leading and participating in walks. 
  • Gain Experience: Develop skills in leadership, communication, and community engagement. 
  • All Walk Leaders are provided with Public Liability Insurance coverage and ongoing support from the Wellbeing Walk Coordinator.
