The Norwood JunkAction
10th Sep 2023 , 11:00am - South Norwood; Station Road and South Recreation Ground
Part of the Carnival of Invention
Norwood JunkAction is an eco-community art project that will turn litter collected in the streets of South Norwood into public sculptures, exhibited in outdoor location(s). The installation will be made by the local litter-picking volunteers and by the children from the schools across London Borough of Croydon.
The litter sculptures will present a visual spectacle to the audience and challenge the viewers’ relationship to the issue of litter and the maintenance and care of their public space.
The public will be invited to participate in litter-picking sessions and art making workshops in the run up and on the day of the event. Norwood JunkAction activities will offer both an imaginative and practical outlook to environmental and social issues.
Norwood JunkAction aims to reach and benefit the diverse population of Croydon through a vibrant artistic process that inspires a sense of collective responsibility, hope and pride in our community.
The project and the Festival promote well-being and support mental health through litter picking, art-making and generating volunteering opportunities and interaction taking place outdoors and indoors. All of the activities and events are free and accessible to all.
