Queer Arts Commission: CRYING SHAME
19th - 21st Mar 2024 , 7:00pm - 8:00pm - Stanley Arts, 12 South Norwood Hill, SE25 6AB
Book your ticketsIt’s a cabaret. A wellness journey. A 10 step programme. All about loneliness… I know, how embarrassing
In a dusty, dazzling dreamscape you’ll encounter washed-up cabaret acts, filthy lip-syncs, and a suite of lonely queer characters. This motley crew of camp clowns will try (and fail) to connect to you with biscuits, sock puppets, tap dancing, sweaty sports classes, a box of confessions, shots shots shots and a whole lotta me time.
Once the dust settles and the guests of Club Cabaret Fragilé blink back the tears, you’ll have learnt to look each other in the eye, and admit: ‘I am lonely. But I am not alone. Because you’re here. We’re here. We’re all here together’.
‘Crying Shame’ is a promenade play, where audiences are guided on a theatrical journey through the building while the story unfurls around them.
In collaboration with Raze Collective and part of This Is Croydon’s Queer Arts Development Strand. The Commission has been generously supported by Arts Council England and This Is Croydon.
London Borough of Culture is a Mayor of London initiative, with support from Arts Council England and National Lottery Heritage Fund.
