Abeer Kayani, South Asian textile artist based in Southampton
Taking inspiration from her cultural roots, identity, heritage and experience as a diaspora, Abeer uses colours that are unique to botanical dyes from regions and tribes that specialise in repurposing kitchen waste to craft beautiful coloured cloth.
These workshops are designed with a festive theme featuring motifs from Islamic geometry, natural dye colours and fabric textures. Participants will be provided with a paper template of a lantern they can cut, decorate and assemble to take away to their homes. These lanterns are specific to the New Forest region.
This event is a highlight within the “This is Croydon” programme, featuring festive activities coordinated by local community organisations and multi-faith groups under the theme ‘A Very Croydon Christmas‘. For more details, visit this link.
