Calling All Traders for Croydon Harvest

Applications are now open for trading at Croydon Harvest Market; a new event taking over Croydon Town Centre this October.

Croydon Harvest featuring The Walnut Fair is an exciting new event taking over Croydon Town Centre on Saturday 5 & Sunday 6 October. We’re opening applications for traders and information stalls to become part of our Market, alongside a programme of free performances, puppetry, live music, dance storytelling, petting farm and more.

The Walnut Fair is an annual tradition which took place in Croydon Town Centre and started in 1314. By 1644, travellers flocked from the East End and beyond to buy walnuts by the hundreds. Customs of the October fair also included a variety of entertainment such as travelling theatre and circus, and popular goods sold included oysters and gingerbread. The fair attracted large crowds to Surrey Street and Middle Row, until it was finally closed down in 1868 for being too bawdy!

This year we will be recreating The Walnut Fair with our partners Pollock’s Toy Museum and Croydon Natural History and Scientific Society who will be creating a mini toy version of the historic extravaganza as well as walnut-themed craft activities. There will also be a variety of other free events spanning Surrey Street, Katherine Street, Croydon Clocktower and The Queen’s Gardens.

What we’re looking for…

We would like to welcome traders who reflect the theme of our event to showcase an array of natural or handmade products from craft items, gifts, food and drink, wildlife and nature inspired designs, flowers and more. We would also welcome food trucks and traders, and information stalls from relevant organisations, community groups or charities.
